Jim & Jill's Wedding Dance Lessons in Brisbane

When Jill and Jim first stepped into their wedding dance lessons with me in Cleveland, I instantly felt their calm, steady presence. They were the kind of couple you can’t help but admire—fun, romantic, patient, and deeply kind to each other. There was a quiet magic between them, a sense of ease that filled the room whenever they were together.

Over five lessons, we created a dance that reflected exactly who they are as a couple. Their first song was the soulful "Coming Home" by Leon Bridges, a smooth, emotional, and timeless. But halfway through, they surprised everyone with a twist: a burst of energy as “It’s That Time” (Dimension Remix) by Marlon Hoffstadt took over. A nod to their raving days, this unexpected second track turned their romantic first dance into a full celebration of their journey together. It was so them. Elegant, joyful, and full of personality and they choreographed the second track themselves. When I say it was so fun to watch in the lessons, I can only imagine the roar of cheers their guests must have had when the tracks switched and Jill and Jim switched gears.

The choreography wasn’t overly complex, but every step was filled with meaning. Jill and Jim wanted to feel confident and relaxed on the day. To have their bodies remember the dance without overthinking. And they absolutely nailed it.

While I haven’t seen their wedding footage yet, I did receive a message the next day that said, “Yesterday was like a movie. Best day ever!” My heart nearly burst. What can I say, I love love!

And then, something I’ll never forget, on their final lesson, they brought me a bunch of flowers. In over 21 years of teaching, they were the very first couple to do that. It was such a touching gesture, especially considering I was providing a service they had paid for. It never occurred to me that a couple would do that. But that’s just who they are, thoughtful, gracious, and truly special.

The final lesson is always a little bittersweet. I spend just a few short hours with each couple, these guys had booked the 5 lesson package, but I get to play a small part in one of the biggest days of their lives. And that never stops being meaningful.

If you’re a Brisbane couple thinking about your first dance, my advice is this: your dance doesn’t have to be perfect or complicated. It just has to feel like you. That’s what made Jill and Jim’s dance so beautiful. It was honest, joyful, and theirs.
